Abstract

At present, there is a trend to prefer and primarily to orient and develop individual car traffic instead public passenger transport across the Europe. However it causes many problems and negative social impacts. The position of railway passenger transport in public passenger transport sector is not optimal. There are identified various organizational, operational and other problems. Therefore the main long-term goal of EU transport policy in passenger transport is to eliminate individual car transport and to adopt measures for public passenger transport development and to achieve the railway transport become a key transport mode. The contribution is focused on analysis of the current position and problems of railway passenger transport from the point of view as to logistic chain. Based on previous research, measures and visions of railway passenger transport development is proposed methodical process and strategic questions for sustainable railway passenger transport and infrastructure. These proposals can be considered as elements of innovative management in transport chain. Practical application of the proposals should improve railway transport planning and organizing and finally to increase efficiency, attractiveness, better image of public the traveling.
