Abstract

Inner-shell ionization in asymmetric ion-atom collisions is reviewed. An historical introduction is followed by an outline of the semiclassical theoretical approaches that have proved to be most fruitful. Recent refinements of the theory are briefly described in relation to the rapidly accumulating experimental results from coincidence and correlation measurements.
