Abstract

The first stage of recognising initial letter sounds must be through hearing them, not the identification of the letter character to match the sound. This will come at a later developmental stage. The first objective should be to ensure that the children can hear, identify and repeat the sound correctly. Other important points to consider are developing the children's vocabulary so that they are able to identify objects that will be used in games and ensuring that the children encounter the activities in a relaxed, stimulating and fun way.
