Abstract

The inhibitory effect of triethyl lead, which is the main toxic metabolite of tetraethyl lead responsible for industrial intoxication, is demonstrated in vitro with a purified enzyme preparation of horse serum cholinesterase. Pyridine-2-aldoxime methiodide (PAM) and pralidoxime methylsulfate are able to restore the activity of the inhibited enzyme up to 80%. Such a reactivation allows us to consider both substances as potential antidotes for tetraethyl lead poisoning.
