Abstract
Introduction: Dupuytren's disease is a common and disabling fibroproliferative condition of the hand. Although surgery readily corrects contracture, recurrence remains an unsolved problem. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity has been shown to play a critical role in cell-mediated collagen contraction and may be integral to Dupuytren's recurrence. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ilomastat, a broad-spectrum MMP inhibitor, on an in vitro model of fibroblast-mediated contraction.
