Abstract

Studies in dogs have shown that the topical anesthetic, oxethazaine, inhibits food-stimulated Heidenhain pouch secretion of HCl after its perfusion into the antral area and following its oral administration. It is concluded that this effect is due to inhibition of antral, and possibly, small bowel gastrin release by oxethazaine.
