Abstract

Inheritance and linkage relationship of capsule drop resistance and pedicel length in castorbeans, Ricinus communis L., were investigated. Segregating generations from crosses indicated that the variety Baker 296 and the ornamental line MW‐1 must possess at least one and two genes for capsule drop resistance, respectively. One of the loci for capsule drop resistance in MW‐1 was closely linked with an estimated 10% recombination with the locus or loci for short pedicels. Complex interactions of disease organisms, plant characteristics and environment caused inaccuracies in classification and difficulties in interpretation of the data.
