Infrastructure Investment and Urban Development in China

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the study was to analyze the infrastructure investment and urban development in China. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: While infrastructure investment has played a crucial role in driving urban development in China, it also poses significant challenges in terms of environmental sustainability, social equity, and institutional governance. Addressing these challenges requires concerted efforts from policymakers, urban planners, and other stakeholders to adopt holistic approaches that balance economic development imperatives with environmental and social considerations. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Modernization theory, urban political economy & new institutionalism may be used to anchor future studies on analyze the infrastructure investment and urban development in China. policymakers and urban planners should prioritize investments in sustainable and resilient infrastructure that address the diverse needs of urban populations while minimizing environmental impacts. strategic frameworks that align infrastructure investment priorities with broader development goals, such as promoting inclusive growth, reducing inequality
