Abstract

Aim. The presented study proposes an approach to assessing infrastructure constraints on the development of regional economic space.Tasks. The author investigates major approaches to the assessment of infrastructure development and determines the principles of assessing infrastructure constraints on the development of regional economic space.Methods. This study uses general scientific methods of theoretical research and analyzes the approaches of leading Russian and foreign scientists in the context of the problem under consideration.Results. The content of the concept of infrastructure constraints is defined as the absence or insufficient development of infrastructure that hinders the development of the regional economy. The principles of assessing infrastructure constraints are formulated based on the indicators of availability of facilities for regional infrastructure and its performance as well as indicators of the impact of infrastructure subsystems on the region’s socio-economic development and the quality of life of its population.Conclusions. The realization of regional economic potential and the increase in the population’s quality of life are hindered by the insufficient development of individual infrastructure subsystems. From the scientific perspective, this makes it highly important to identify factors that cause imbalances in the economic space and to determine infrastructure constraints that can affect the prospects for the structural development of regional economic space.
