Abstract

Infrared surface plasmon resonance on subwavelength periodic metallic grating structures is investigated numerically. It is shown that subwavelength periodic metallic gratings have various useful properties for infrared surface plasmon sensors such as wide range of resonance wavelength tunability, sharp resonance shape, and high sensitivity to external refractive index variation. Optimal structural conditions of proposed metallic grating structure for high performance infrared surface plasmon fiber sensor application are analyzed.
