Abstract

Water is much less known than one might at first sight think. Its IR spectra in the conventional region, for instance, have for long been of a poor quality and consequently ignored. Also, the organization and dynamics of H 2 O molecules either in liquid water or in aqueous solutions is still a matter of discussion. Good quality IR spectra of HDO molecules, as obtained using ATR (attenuated total reflection) techniques, are described. They are shown to be in some aspects simpler than spectra of H 2 O or D 2 O molecules
