Abstract

The infrared absorption spectrum of gaseous CF3–CH2Br has been obtained with a 1 m cell and a Perkin-Elmer double-pass spectrometer equipped with CsBr, NaCl, and LiF prisms. The Raman spectrum of the liquid phase has been photographed with a 3-prism glass spectrograph of reciprocal linear dispersion 15 A/mm at 4358 A, and depolarization ratios have been measured for all but 2 of the Raman bands. The 18 vibrational fundamentals have been assigned as follows: Species a′ : 3000, 1311, 1251, 1083, 850, 844, 725, 634, 526, 312, and 158 cm—1; species a″ : 3052, 1437, 1282, 1143, 539, 352, and 104 cm—1. The spectra have been interpreted in detail. Thermodynamic functions have been calculated.
