Abstract

The absorption spectra of the hydrated lanthanide trichlorides were examined in the region between 4000-400 cm −1 by the KBr disk technique. The major bands are assigned to vibrations characteristic of the water molecules on the basis of the consistent pattern of the observed spectra, and isotopic frequency shifts upon deuteration.
