Abstract

AbstractIn order to remain competitive, academia and business strive for productivity and efficiency as costly and limited resources are acquired and allocated. Information technology can help in both of these areas. However, philosophical and operational differences between academic institutions and businesses restrict the development of effective and mutually beneficial arrangements. The efficient transfer of technology is possible if all terms and conditions are documented and if operational procedures are consistent with strategic master plans. These issues are examined in detail through case-study analyses. Ten management guidelines suggest methods and actions for achieving effective information technology transfer between academia and business.
