Abstract
Abstract This book chapter describes an algorithm and provides templates that will facilitate proper disaster medicine information flow management (DMIFM) during the planning and execution of disaster medical support (DMS), in order to reach the ultimate objective of decrease mortality, morbidity and disability among the affected population during disasters. DMIFM provides specific, up-to-date, comprehensive information to all engaged in disaster medical relief. The chapter first defines the terms data, information, information flow, and information management. It then presents and discusses the steps of the algorithm for DMIFM (setting the DMSM information requirements; allocating target groups to the information requirements; establishing an appropriate DMIFM structure for managing the information flow; preparing questionnaires for each of the target groups and standard operating procedures; planning the DMIFM activities; target group training; and, lessons learned (LL) implementation).
