Abstract

Abstract Recent avionics developments and the associated processing power now available in civil and military aircraft have produced cockpit systems that can rapidly saturate the crew with information. Future cockpits will have the potential to provide many more times the information available today. Man's processing capability, however, remains essentially constant and minute in comparison. Only by understanding man's capabilities and limitations will it be possible to design avionics systems that match human requirements and result in an effective man-machine combination.
