Abstract

This paper analyzes informal employment in Mexico which has become the main area of the job market throughout the country. Informal employment is a complex phenomenon mainly relating to violation of the legal rules on land use, employment contracts, environmental regulation, tax and social security payment among others. The main assumption is that the situation of informal employment is an indicator that can connect employability with the professional ethics-university social responsibility-business social responsibility-State social responsibility sequence, because the increase in formal employment depends on an adequate combination of ethical skills of the professional based on professional ethics education received in the university. This ethics education is one of the main aspects of university social responsibility. This is also true of business social responsibility, mainly based on business ethics, and of the social responsibility of the State which has the role of promoting formal legally regulated economic development in order to guarantee acceptable living conditions for all citizens. The authors argue that this sequence can be a conceptual support for analyzing employability from an ethical perspective.
