Abstract

In Brazil today, we are faced with increasing population of elderly. This increase is accompanied by changes of the natural process of aging that predispose to reduced capacity of discrimination somatic sensorial. This bias leads to a greater tendency to instability of balance. This can cause problems such as falls, reducing the functional independence and quality of life of the elderly. This case report is proposed to verify the influence of a program of twelve weeks of proprioceptive training on postural balance and quality of life of an elderly person, by the Berg Balance Scale and the SF-36, respectively. It was through the scales of assessment, the proprioceptive training program applied promoted changes in patterns of balance and quality of life of an elderly person.
