Abstract
Objective To investigate risk factors for severe bleeding in patients undergoing mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL). Methods We retrospectively analyzed the records of 1461 patients who had undergone 1524 mini-PCNL in our hospital between January 2012 and January 2014. Data on patients who experienced severe hemorrhage requiring renal angiography were compared with those on other patients using univariate and multivariate analyses. Results Twenty-one cases(1.38%) in 12 males and 9 females required angiography and/or embolization for bleeding control. Renal angiography revealed pseudoaneurysm in 12 patients, arteriovenous fistula in 3 patients, a combination of both in 1 patient, and no lesion in 5 patients. Bleeding could be controlled with superselective embolization in 16 patients. Hydronephrosis was the significant risk factor for severe bleeding during PCNL. Conclusions Absence of hydronephrosis is significantly associated with the risk of severe bleeding during mini-PCNL . Key words: Nephrostomy, Percutaneous; Hemorrhage
