Abstract

The influence of water sorption on the refractive index of a fluorinated polyimide was investigated. The change in refractive index as much as 10-3 reflected a one order smaller change in volume than that in weight due to water sorption. We confirmed the dependence of refractive index on water sorption using optical switch fabricated by fluorinated polyimide waveguide.
