Influence of Trap Colors on Captures of Japanese Beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)1

Abstract

Metal Ellisco Japanese beetle traps, painted 10 different conventional and fluorescent colors, were baited with phenethyl propionate + eugenol + geraniol, 3:7:3, and exposed to Popillia japonica Newman, in competition with standard yellow traps in infested areas in Wooster, Ohio. Traps paintcd with six of these colors—arc yellow, white, signal green, saturn yellow, green, and blue—were similar in attractancy to the standard yellow trap.
