Abstract

We compare the behaviour of magnetomechanical damping (MMD) of vibrations and magnetomechanical noise (MN) when a cyclic torsional stress is applied to NO Fe–3%Si rectangular strips. The torsion axis is parallel to the major axis of strips which shows five orientations (0°, 22°, 45°, 67°, 90°) in relation to the rolling direction, with different magnetostriction values. NO strips show anisotropic behaviour of magnetomechanical effects. Like MMD, the high-frequency components of MN are due to the stress-induced jumps of 90° domain walls. Additional studies show that the low-frequency component of noise varies similarly to that of the magnetic permeability and magnetic Barkhausen noise (BN).
