Abstract
This paper discusses the effect of pulse-width modulation strategies on the total harmonic distortion of the currents with the same switching losses in 2-level voltage source inverter. Continuous and discontinuous pulse-width modulation will be considered. In the developed model, the voltage source inverter is connected to a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The impact of the modulation strategy on the torque ripples will be also considered. The simulation results showed that the total harmonic distortion is better for the discontinuous pulse-width modulation, but the torque ripples frequency is smaller in the continuous pulse-width modulation.
