Abstract

ABSTRACT The construction of dams on large rivers significantly changes the hydrological regime. The morphology and functional features of floodplain water bodies have a significant impact on water quality parameters. The electrical conductivity, transparency, water temperature and dissolved oxygen content of 302 water bodies located in the Dnipro River floodplain were investigated. The variability of water quality indicators is explained by different sources of water supply to the floodplain reservoirs, as well as by the geological characteristics of the soil. The genesis of lakes of a certain shape is related to the geological and geomorphological conditions of the floodplain, which is the reason for the connection between the functional characteristics of water bodies and water quality indicators in them. Predictors of the probability of oxygen stress are the proximity of the sandy border to the reservoir and the elongated shape of the reservoir.
