Abstract
The relationship between Informal and formal social support systems and the use of social services by the Hispanic elderly is a basic issue that has not been extensively investigated. The study reported in this article examined this relationship using a nationwide sample of elderly Hispanic persons. It found that informal support systems do not directly affect the use of formal social services; rather, through their influence on other factors, they exert significant indirect effects.
