Abstract

Data from Forestry Commission fertilizer experiments were analysed to determine the influence of site factors on the growth response of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis (Bong.) Carr.) following applications of phosphate and potassium at time of planting. Multiple regression analysis revealed that growth response was influenced by soil type and was related to the foliar nutrient levels of untreated controls. Growth response to application of phosphate was also influenced by lithology. No relationships were found between growth response and elevation or annual rainfall.
