Abstract
The constituents of the red seaweedLaurencia papillosa were investigated in different seasons. Protein and galactan comprised the major components of the algal material. Acid hydrolysis of the alga afforded galactose, glucose, xylose, ribose and glucuronic acid. The alga was shown to contain cholesterol, β-sitosterol and lanosterol. Free amino acids as well as the amino acid composition of the isolated proteins were also investigated. The algal components showed different seasonal variations.
