Abstract
In Metal matrix composites the reinforcement of the material helps to improve the strength, wear, the surface finish of the material. Aluminum MMC's are all the more generally utilized nowadays for different applications. But due to the availability of ceramic reinforcements such as SiC, Alumina, Boron Carbide and so on, a lot of troubles are experienced during machining. This paper helps us to reveal the problems associated with the machining of Metal Matrix Composites in general and Aluminum Matrix Composites in particular. While machining the problems may arise due to the materials or on the tools, difficulties are experienced when these reinforcements interact with the apparatus. This article examines the issues related to the turning of aluminum MMC’s by considering the factors such as tools used, methods adopted, and results obtained.
