Ground water samples were collected from different areas in Ariyalur District, Tamil Nadu. Twelve groundwater samples were collected and analysed for physico - chemical parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Calcium, Magnesium, Total Hardness, Bicarbonate, Chloride, Nitrate and Sulphate in order to understand the different geochemical processes affecting the groundwater quality. The analytical data were compared with WHO standards. Water quality index is used to predict the water quality. The analytical results indicate that the majority of groundwater samples are found to be unsuitable for drinking purpose.
