Abstract

CIRCEG is a portable dose equivalent meter based on the microdosimetric technique. Associated with a tissue-equivalent proportional counter it gives absorbed dose and dose equivalent for photons and neutrons in a single measurement. It requires a validated threshold in terms of lineal energy to discriminate between photons and neutrons. Photon and neutron energy responses are studied and the results are compiled for different values of discrimination threshold. With the help of data base software the mean energy neutron response and its uncertainty are computed, taking into account the influence of the photon field. In modifying some characteristics of this neutron-photon field such as photon energy, ratio of equivalent dose of photons and neutrons and discrimination threshold, the mean energy neutron responses and its uncertainty are analysed. From these results the best choice of the threshold is determined.
