Abstract

In this work, it was investigated the structural quality of the calcined (Na0.52,K0.48)NbO3 powders by two methods: by reacting the sodium carbonate with Nb2O5 in either monoclinic or orthorhombic phases and by using a fast calcination method. It was found that the degree and quality of the reactions among the precursor powders have a strong influence on the structural quality of the KNN powders. The data suggest that the reactions of transformation occur in two stages for conventionally calcined powders, in which the second reaction, at higher temperatures, leads to a better crystallization. On the other hand, fast calcination also reveals to be an effective method to produce well-crystallized KNN powders.
