Abstract

The microstructure of sintered porous yttria‐stabilized zirconia (YSZ) pellets was controlled by adjusting the sintering temperature and adding appropriate amounts of polymethyl methacrylate powder to produce pores. The thermal diffusivity of the pellets was measured using the laser flush technique. The influence of pellet microstructure on its thermal diffusivity was investigated. At both high and low temperatures, the influence of the density, pore size, YSZ grain size, grain‐boundary concentration, and the ratio of closed pores on the phonon diffusion and photon heat radiation was clarified.
