Abstract

High-calcium MgO-CaO refractories were prepared using light burned dolomite as the main starting material, high activity MgO powders from magnesite decomposition products as the additive, to study the influence of high activity MgO powders on the sintering behavior and hydration resistance of MgO-CaO refractories. Then the mineral phases were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the crystal bonding mechanism was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that: 1) The sintering properties of MgO-CaO materials were effectively improved and the sintering temperature was reduced. 2) The high activity MgO powders formed coating layers on the surface of CaO grains, which can effectively reduce the hydration effect of CaO. Thus the hydration resistance of MgO-CaO refractories was improved.
