Abstract

The departs of the characteristic frequencies fs (frequency of maximum electrical conductance) and fp (frequency of maximum electrical resistance) from the associated critical frequencies f1 and f2 (admittance and impedance maxima of the lossless resonator) are tabulated for the fundamental mode of vibration, as a function of the mechanical loss tangent tan δm and the electromechanical coupling coefficient kt. The exact one-dimensional model of a piezoelectric resonator, with a rigorous account of the intrinsic mechanical losses, is taken as a reference in the study instead of the frequently used Butterworth-Van Dyke equivalent circuit. Although the difference between frequencies is very small in most cases, the accurate tabulation for special cases with small ktQm product is of interest for a better interpretation of measurements in low-Q resonators.
