Abstract

The influence of the kinematics of the process of magnetic abrasive treatment on the quality of work surfaces of taps with a profile angle of 60° is investigated. The influence of the conditions of the base of the taps in the working zone of the machine on the quality of the working surfaces is shown, and the presence of zones of «overlapping» of the teeth of the tool during its processing is experimentally confirmed. For p = 30° the machining takes place only on the cylindrical part of the teeth and on the cone. At p = 70° almost the entire profile of the cutting edge and the surface are processed. The roughness on the back surface after magnetic abrasive machining at p = 30° decreased by 35 %, and at p = 70° decreased by 10–25 %. This is due to the peculiarities of the interaction of the magnetic abrasive tool with the machined surface. The roughness on the front surface of all taps after magnetic abrasive machining decreased from Ra = 0.62 μm to Ra = 0.3–0.35 μm. The microhardness on the cylindrical part of the teeth after magnetic abrasive machining at p = 30° increased by 10 %, and at p = 70° decreased by 10 % which is connected with the appearance on the surface during the plastic deformation of the defects of the material of a thin surface layer and a partial imprint of fine dispersed carbides in the depth of the material.
