Abstract
Xenopus laevis oocytes are used as heterologous expression system in many experiments from basic research to drug development. Due to susceptibility to environmental conditions and unknown cell death processes, their functionality can be maintained only for a limited time in vitro. In the present study, we investigated how changes in culture conditions can prolong oocyte viability. Stage V and VI oocytes were incubated in antibiotic salt solutions (MBS) with or without apoptosis and maturation inhibitors.
