Abstract

AbstractStudies were conducted to determine the influence of soil water potential and hydraulic conductivity on pregermination water absorption by rapeseed under different seed densities and geometries. In all seed densities and geometries, water absorption rate was reduced with each decrease in water potential. Hydraulic conductivity had an important influence on the water absorption process. Soil water potential at which soil hydraulic conductivity became important was dependent upon seed density and geometry and was associated with hydraulic conductivitywater content relation of the seed.
