Abstract
1. In steel with boron the stability of austenite during quenching increases when the grains are fine. A reduction of the total length of austenite grain boundaries leads to a loss of the effect of boron. The heat treatment of steel microalloyed with boron (temperature-time parameters of quenching) must ensure fine grains (≤30 μm). 2. The optimal tempering temperature for steel with boron is the temperature at which precipitation of carbide phase is maximal. 3. The change from lath martensite to a recrystallized structure and the solution and coalescence of carbide phase in the intercritical temperature range are responsible for the high susceptibility to evenly distributed plastic deformation.
