Abstract
The undisturbed development and function of the enteric nervous system (ENS) is necessary for a well-balanced life, and depends amongst other things on various neurotrophic factors. Problems regarding the availability of these factors during development may lead to severe motility disorders such as Hirschsprungs disease (HSD). Besides the surgical therapy, more and more efforts were undertaken to treat HSD or severe dysganglionosis in general with a cell therapy. Neuronal stem cells can be transplanted to restore the ENS within the aganglionic segment.
