Abstract

Summary Pathogenicity tests of the cyst nematode Globodera rostochiensis on tomato plants, variety Moneymaker, proved that 25,000 larvae/pot decrease the tomato top dry weight if the inoculation occurs two weeks after transplanting. The tests also indicated that G. rostochiensis -infected tomato plants are stunted and leaves are retarded in their emergence. 2,500 cysts/pot decrease the dry root weight and root length of tomato plants, but have no influence on the fresh weight of infected roots. 800 or 2,500 cysts/pot decrease the fresh and dry weight of tomato plant tops. Chemical analyses of tomato tops indicate that phosphorus and potassium are less in tops of the 2,500 cysts-infected plants.
