Abstract
This article investigates the dependence of the protective properties of lithium greases on the viscosity and composition of the dispersion medium by means of a dynamic method. Uses a polymeric additive (polyethylene with a molecular weight of 24,000) to obtain high-viscosity dispersion media, with practically no change in the hydrocarbon group composition of the oil base stock. Finds that changes in the viscosity of the dispersion medium, over the range investigated, give practically no change in the corrosion rate. Indicates that a content of more than 70% of the residual component in the dispersion medium ensures a high level of protective properties of the lithium greases.
