Abstract
An experimental modelling of unipolar hip arthroplasty in rats was made with use of titanium implants, whose heads were covered with oxide or alumina (corundum) coatings. A histological method helped to reveal that 5 months after the operation the articular cartilage of the acetabulum developed destructive changes, as well as there were fibrosis in the articular capsule and reorganization of the subchondral bone, which were less evident in cases of implantation of titanium samples with an alumina coating.
