Abstract

This article is essentially a detailed summary of the work we have done on very fine fluorite/oleate and veryfine scheelite/oleate systems in order to evaluate the process of shear flocculation in different complex environments. These complex environments were created by the simultaneous adjustment of all or a few of the following variables- pH, silicate, magnesium, carbonate, temperature, conditioning speed, and conditioning time. The shear flocculation as well as the oleate adsorption/abstraction data are analysed and discussed with the help of the results obtained from the Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), the Hallimond tube flotation of the shear flocs, the electrokinetic measurements and the detailed theoretical calculations of the thermodynamic equilibria of the scheelite/fluorite/oleate/silicate/carbonate/magnesium modelling system.
