Abstract

Cathode-carbonate is a prospective material for low-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (LT-SOFCs). The influence of carbonate on the properties of cathode LT-SOFCs was studied. Different amounts of binary carbonate (Li2CO3:Na2CO3) were prepared at molar ratios of 67:33 and 62:38. The cathode composite powders were calcined at 750 °C for 2 h before uniaxial press. X-ray diffraction results confirmed that the carbonate in cathode composite existed as amorphous phase. Therefore, carbonate has a good compatibility with cathode composite powders. High-energy ball milling maintained the composite cathode powders at the nanoscale. The developed cathode composite also gave acceptable porosity values between 26% and 27%. The findings show that that the amount of binary (Li/Na) carbonate in cathode composite influences its properties, indicating potential for LT-SOFCs applications.
