Abstract
Objective. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with an increasing prevalence, accounting for 90-95% of all diabetics. It is considered that the disease is induced by inflammation. In this study, we aimed to investigate the inflammation parameters and the relationship of these parameters with blood groups in newly diagnosed T2DM patients. Methods. The study included 80 newly diagnosed T2DM patients and 80 healthy volunteers. Demographic characteristics, body mass indexes (BMI), biochemistry and hemogram test results, C-reactive protein (CRP) values, and blood groups of the patient and control groups were recorded and compared between the groups. Results. The mean age was 51.64 years and 53.8% of the patients were male in the newly diagnosed T2DM group. The counts of white blood cells (WBC), neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets, and monocytes, the values of the monocyte/HDL ratio (MHR) and the systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), and the CRP levels of T2DM patients were statistically significantly higher than those of the control group (p
