Abstract
Introduction: Visfatin/PBEF/Nampt is an adipocytokine whose levels are enhanced in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Our group has previously demonstrated that visfatin has the ability to both inflame human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMC) and impair vascular reactivity in human and rat mesenteric microvessels. Therefore, we aimed to assess whether visfatin can be also locally synthesized in the vascular wall and regulated in response to other cytokines from the adipose tissue.
