Abstract

Thirteen rhesus and five squirrel monkeys developed tuberculosis during an outbreak in a university nonhuman primate colony. Thirty-one people were exposed to the tuberculous animals, and one had tuberculin test conversion. Tuberculosis appeared to be spread between rooms by transfer of infected animals, and within rooms by the airborne route.
