Abstract
We highlight the endemic viral infections caused by Arbovirus, whose clinical manifestations can be categorised into three large syndromes: fever-arthralgia-rash; viral haemorrhagic fever and central nervous system infections (CNS). In this chapter and based on overall worldwide incidence, the likelihood of imported cases and of local transmission, we shall focus on the following viruses: chikungunya, dengue and zika (all of them may present with similar symptoms and arthritis, and they share the same geographic distribution). We would also focus on viruses causing haemorrhagic fevers, of which we will focus on Crimea Congo virus (local cases having recently been described in our country); yellow fever and Ebola virus (the latest due to the growing interest after the recent epidemic that posed a threat to world health), and viruses affecting the CNS (Japanese encephalitis, Central European encephalitis and West Nile fever).
