Abstract

The differential cross sections for the inelastic scattering of 104 MeV α-particles on 12C, 20Ne and 64Ni were measured. The experimental data are successfully described in the frame of the Austern-Blair theory including higher-order excitations. Multiple excitations prove to be important. For 20Ne and 64Ni the extracted spectroscopic quantities are discussed in terms of the collective model. In the case of 20Ne a hexadecapole deformation becomes evident.
