Abstract

The integrated and differential cross sections of the 6Li(n, 3H) 4He reaction are analysed in the frame of the S-matrix theory of nuclear reactions for neutron energies less than 600 keV. The experimental data can be satisfactorily accounted for by using a one-level approximation without background in the resonant ( 5 2 −) channel and a constant background approximation in the 1 2 + and 3 2 + channels corresponding to the s-wave capture of the neutrons. One finds no indication of the presence of a virtual s-state in any of the channels corresponding to the s-wave capture; however, the existence of such a virtual state cannot be excluded by the present analysis. The contribution of the 1 2 + channel to the integrated cross section is approximately three times larger than the contribution of the 3 2 + channel.
